Let me tell you a story. Some of you might know that Veritons Song Contest was initially just a sub-section of another site, Veritons, hence the name etc. There were many different activities and contests on that site, in its glory days. One of the most popular was another contest, called Diversity of People, going back way longer than VSC. It was usually hosted in the summer, once a year. And we are thinking of bringing it back. What was it about? A year between editions being a lot of time to think of organising, not every edition was the same. However, behind them were pretty much the same principles. Every participant signed up with a country, to start, and had to fulfill several tasks. The tasks were revealed one at a time, each offering 24 hours for the participants to submit their work. The tasks were quite varied, covering topics from geography, history, local traditions, anything you could think about in a country. But it wasn't the blind copy-paste of numerous pages that would grant you top points. It was the little things. The amazing facts found after browsing numerous pages. And it was a great way to learn new and interesting things you didn't even expect. How is this related to VSC? It isn't. Maybe it's just melancholy speaking, the memory of what once was, but this, at the time, was a beautiful tradition and we just let it go to waste. We have the international part figured out, right? Each of us already represents one country, some of us represented even more in the past. We could keep them, show our international pride. Or we could pick others, get out of the comfort zone. Everything is up to discussion, this is why this thread is here. However, we are part of a Music Contest right now, am I right? What does this have to do with music? Well, it could have something to do. We could try to draw some lines, innovate, find ways of presenting a country by reaching within its musical culture. Everything is possible. How about the language? Those of you who followed me until here probably naturally assumed it was English. I mean, this message is in English, and why wouldn't it be, if the contest were to happen in another language? Well, this is also up for discussion. Since we originally were a Romanian site, naturally, the editions of DoP in the past were in Romanian. However, we are proud to say now that we have gone international ![]() However, English not being the first language of anyone currently participating in VSC (as far as I know), extensive reading and summarizing in English may not come as naturally to everyone. It's ok, really. We are here to gather opinions and see where this is headed. So, those of you from Romania (since you are still the majority), please say if you would rather have it in Romanian. We are here to discuss. So, I guess that's it. This is basically all I have to say for now. Please list bellow any questions, concerns, ideas. Nothing is set in stone, everything is up for discussion, we are just looking to see if there's any enthusiasm for this thing around here. P.S. The site of the last edition of DoP. Go check it out if you want. It's in Romanian, though, so sorry for any inconveniences. http://dop.ucoz.ro/ |
