Sibiu - Our 4th host-city from Romania - 8 September 2015

After we visited the first two most populous cities in Romania (the national capital Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca) and the oldest still populated city (Constanta), it's time to move towards a fancier location, one of the most important cultural centres of Romania and also the designated European Capital of Culture for the year 2007.

Sibiu (or Hermannstadt if you are german) is a city in Transylvania. Formerly the centre of the Transylvanian Saxons, this old city was ranked as "Europe's 8th most idyllic place to live" by Forbes

The city of Sibiu and its surroundings are one of the most visited areas in Romania. It holds one of the best preserved historical sites in the country, many of its medieval fortifications having been kept in excellent state. Its old center has begun the process for becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Sibiu and its surrounding area have many significant museums, with 12 institutions housing art collections, paintings, and exhibits in decorative arts, archeology, anthropology, history, industrial archeology and history of technology and natural sciences.

Although TVR did not decide yet, the 74th edition of Veritons Song Contest will most probably be hosted in the Magura Aerodrome, 5 kilometers away from the city.

I visited Sibiu only once (and quite briefly since we were heading to Sighisoara). From my first and short lived impression I think it's a great city. I enjoyed "Podul Minciunilor"
