The voting is over and with it, South Africa has been crowned the victor of the 91st edition. The winner entry is called "Helele" and was performed by South African singer Velile Mchunu and Danish percussion duo Safri Duo. The song was the official trailer song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup broadcast on German television channel RTL and Switzerland's Schweizer Fernsehen and Télévision Suisse Romande in June–July.
"Helele" is based on the 1971 song "Aieaoa" by French producer Daniel Vangarde and Belgian producer Jean Kluger in the group Yamasuki.
This is now the first victory scored by the African continent and 6th victory of the juror Mike. South Africa almost withdrew at the start of the Tirana 91 edition due to some internal problems in their national public broadcaster. Luckily, they decided to stay, thus winning with 230 points, being now one of the most successful songs in the contest.
Speaking of the runner-up, this edition the honour was given to Jamaica, who returned to the contest with a new head of delegation. It seems the irish luck followed Gera and managed to get another top 3, this time with the help of "I'm in Control" - a song by English electronic music duo AlunaGeorge, featuring Jamaican dancehall singer Popcaan. It received 155 points.
Top 3 was completed by yet another returning country - Colombia. The world star Juan Luis Londoño Arias, better known by his stage name Maluma, competed once again for the Latin American nation and it received 148 points. Maluma's Carnaval thus attracting a lot of fans.
And here we say farewell to the Balkan lands and the Albanian bunkers, and we buy our tickets to the 92nd edition that will be hosted in South Africa. Don't forget to protect against Ebola. Africa is a dangerous place.
